It may be hard for some people to figure out what they are going to do for the rest of their life but, for Georgette Mulheir, it was a piece of cake. Ever since she was a kid, she was well aware of the fact that she wanted to be just like her mom & be a social worker. Of course, it was not easy as Georgette Mulheir did have to turn down what could have been a promising music career but in the end, she knew she made the right call.
Once she was done with all her coursework, she went on to work at one of the local businesses but soon knew her calling was far greater than this. As such, she moved to Bucharest in an effort to jump start their social services business which had been nonexistent up until then. Within 2 decades, Georgette Mulheir was able to reduce the number of orphanages from 2000,000 down to just 20,000 as she did her best to find homes for all of them.
Georgette Mulheir was so adamant about this that she even gave a ted talk where she discussed why kids should never be sent off to an orphanage if it can be helped. Up to now, she has saved hundreds of children in several countries of the world. In 2014, she was honored to be named one of the most prominent social workers out there. While Georgette Mulheir is grateful for the recognition, she has not lost sight of her mission to get rid of every last orphanage. She now lives in Romania.
