The company is a spin-off from Evogene, where Dr. Lilach Hadany served as Vice President of Business Development and Corporate Development. Envy is a microbiome sequencing company that offers an at-home test for personalized vaginal health solutions.
The company is based on research conducted at the Weizmann Institute in Israel by Professor Eran Elinav and his team. The study showed that up to 80% of women have bacteria in the vagina that are not part of the healthy community, which can cause irregular disease symptoms. This imbalance can be caused by many factors, including hormonal changes during birth control pills, pregnancy, and menopause, including taking antibiotics that alter the Lactobacilli bacteria in the vagina.
The Israel Ministry of Health approved the Envy test for preliminary use in women’s health, although it has not yet been approved for commercial purposes. The test is designed to offer women the opportunity to evaluate the state of their microbiome before using any treatments, whether it be prescription or over-the-counter remedies.
